Chanakya, also known as Vishnugupta and Kautilya, is known as a grand thinker and scholar of ancient times whose exploits led to the rise of Chandragupta Maurya as the first-ever emperor of India. He groomed the young Chandragupta Maurya, to make him a resplendent personality, efficient ruler, and able warrior. It was the framework of the policies set by Chanakya that India flourished to become a great nation.

Chanakya has written his magnum opus, Arthashastra, a fine treatise on politics. The policies set by him are called Chanakya Neeti, which are referred to even today to resolve and understand the prevailing issues. His views have retained their contemporary value because of the wisdom and virtue they contain.
